One of the eight best attractions in Taiwan. Bitan is very close to MRT Xindian station ( 捷運新店站 ), making it a popular spot for weekend getaways. Terraces, ponds, and sandbars stand on both banks, and the area is great for canoeing, fishing, barbecuing, rowing, etc. The Bitan suspension bridge has reopened to public since 2000.
Regardless of season and weather, tourists flock to Wulai for its hotsprings, letting it live up to its reputation as the hot spring capital of Taiwan. After taking a dip in the hot spring, most tourists head to Wulai Old Street ( 烏來老街 ), tasting traditional Atayal ( 雅 ) snacks and appreciating aboriginal handicrafts.
Hot springs play an important role for the Atayal ( 泰 雅) people, and the word “Wulai” refers to hot spring. After a dip in Wulai hot springs, dubbed “beauty bath”, the skin is softer and fairer. Visitors to Wulai very often choose to stay in five-star hotels, where special hot spring meal is available too.
The Neidong Forest Recreation Area is a 1,000-hectare park situated at Hsinhsien village in Wulai District.
